Would you like to become a truly prolific writer, someone who’s writing much more than you’re writing now, and doing it in a completely relaxed way and loving it?

Imagine if you could not only speed up your writing, so that you’re writing FASTER, but also improve the quality of your output, so that you’re writing BETTER.

There are many secrets to writing more. Let’s look at my top five secrets to writing more while improving your writing, so that you’re making more sales than you’re making now.

1. Develop Templates For Your Writing So You Can Write More And Sell More

A template is a preset format for a document, so that you don’t have to recreate the format each time you write. Creating templates for your writing is the primary way to write more – you’re not starting over from scratch each time you write.

Think of a template as a model. Once you have a clear understanding of the model, you know what to write. It’s the difference between getting to a destination using a map, and trying to locate a destination without a map.

Creating a template is essential if you want to write for a specific market.

For example, let’s say you want to write for XYZ magazine. You discover that XYZ runs a long health article each month. You collect several issues of the magazine, and assess the articles to discover exactly what the format is. Once you know the format XYZ prefers, you’ll know exactly how to write this kind of article for XYZ and SELL to them without floundering.

2. Kick Your Logical Mind Out Of The Way With Free Writing

Free writing is a way of tickling your memory to provide you with information. It’s a creative tool, and it’s a vital skill if you want to write more.

I use free writing at every stage of all my writing. It’s a painless way of generating text and making associations. When you get into the habit of free writing, you can write anything you choose to write, and you can write fast.

When you free write, you select a topic and set a timer for five minutes (or longer, if you wish.) Then you write, without stopping until your time’s up.

When you use free writing, you’ll discover not only that you know much more than you think you know, but also that writing is much more fun without pressure.

3. You’ve Got To Have A Plan

Planning is essential for your life, not just your writing. If you want to write more, you must know WHAT you want to write.

Make a plan for your year, month, week and day. Spend ten minutes planning your day before you go to sleep each night, then work your plan in the morning. In the evening, assess and review. Your plans will change as you write: that’s great. Revise your plan to incorporate new information.

Create a plan for your day today, then plan every day.

4. Remember The Magical Number Seven, Plus Or Minus Two – don’t “write” in your head

Your working memory is limited; you can only keep around five to nine elements or “chunks” in your mind at one time. That’s not a lot, and it’s a primary reasons some writers write very slowly. They’re trying to use their mind in a way it wasn’t designed to be used.

Don’t try to “write” in your head.

WRITE. Write your thoughts, so you get it out of your working memory onto the page/ computer screen. The Magical Number Seven is the reason free writing is such a wonderful tool, and why it’s so important for you to use this skill.

When you write, in free writing and journaling, you’re extending your working memory, and when you do this, you automatically write more.

5. Learn To Relax: It’s The Secret To Creativity

How good are you at relaxing your body, so that it’s as limp as cooked spaghetti?

Take a moment now. Close your eyes, and lean back in your chair. Inhale and exhale, breathing deeply. Just focus on your breathing. Take five deep breaths.

Don’t over-breathe – don’t strain. Breathe normally but deeply.

Conscious breathing reboots your mind’s computer. It clears your working memory.

Once you get into the habit of taking “breathing breaks” every half hour or so as you write, you eliminate stress and tension.

Learn the Relaxation Response – it’s vital to writing more.

Writing more and writing better than you write at the moment is possible for you. It’s easier than you can imagine. Start with these five secrets, they’re amazing tools. Not only do they build your confidence in your writing, they build your writing skills as well.

Happy writing. :-)

Thanks for the great tips Angela. The template idea is brilliant. You could probably make a bomb putting packages of those together and selling them to other writers.
