Web Writing: Easy, Fun and Highly Lucrative… if you know how

report.jpg

Are you writing for the Web? If you’re not a Web writer currently, you should be. The Web is a huge, hungry market for words, which is becoming hungrier by the day, as thousands of new Web sites are launched each day, and existing sites expand and add more pages.

To get you started thinking in terms of the Web as a collection of markets for your words, let’s look at some of the many ways in which freelance writers can make money from their words online.

Online newspapers and magazines need your words

As advertising moves online, the online versions of newspapers and magazines are great markets for your words.

If I were starting out as a freelancer today, I’d get a gig with my local newspaper’s online version (unpaid if necessary) and would then parlay my bylines into gigs with national and international markets.

Tip: the more of your words are online, the more people see them – and contact you to write for them. So get your words online, with your byline, as much as you can.

Companies need your words for their online operations, both internal and external

The current new big thing for large companies is internal wikis ( see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki) and blogs. Companies need writers to manage the information on their wikis. If you’re an intermediate level freelance writer, start sending proposals to companies touting your Web writing skills.

You can also send proposals to companies proposing blogs. Blogs are mainstream now, but most companies don’t have the expertise to create a blog and manage it. Enter you, the enterprising freelancer. :-)

You can approach companies with proposals, or get local gigs via advertising and graphics design agencies.

Pro blogging – bigger than ever

Blogs are huge online, and justifiably so. The name of the game for everyone online is VISIBILITY, and blogs give great visibility.

Develop your pro blogging skills, and start blogging for others and for yourself. A freelancing friend ghosts 30 blogs. She smiles a lot… blogs are easy to write, and great fun too.

Creating Web sites to flip – easy for experienced writers

If you know how to use a word processor, you can use Web editing software. Many writers are switching from writing articles for magazines to writing Web sites.

Here’s what one writer who creates sites and flips (sells) them told me: “In the time it takes me to research, write a query, interview and write a magazine article I can write a Web site which makes me four times as much as the article would. The money’s great, but the freedom is better – there’s no editor asking for revisions. I can write a site in ten hours, and sell it in a week.”

Writing articles and PLR – perfect for Web writing beginners

If you’re a new writer, writing Private Label Rights (PLR) articles and ebooks is a perfect home business.

Everyone needs content online, and many people buy PLR because it’s easier than writing the material from scratch.

The more you know as a Web writer, and the more experience you have, the more opportunities will open for you. I encourage you to get started Web writing, and discover this for yourself.
