Writing from Home – Three Tips to Develop Writing as a Home Business

If you can write, you can create your own home based writing business.

There are really only two steps to the process; writing and promotion.

Both are equally important. Both are vital. You need to write so that you have something to promote, and at the same time, you need to promote your writing and writing skills in order to get and keep clients.

Does it sound simple? That’s because it is. However, many writers forget the “promotion” aspect. Oddly enough, I’ve never met a writer who over-did the promotion. :-)

So let’s look at three tips to develop your writing as a home based business. If you do these three things, you’ve created a successful business. But please remember, the promotion is not optional, it’s vital.

1. Write articles – articles are in high demand by all Web sites

I write articles every day. Most days, I write four or five. By the lights of some freelance writers, I’m a slacker. Many Web writers write ten to fifteen articles a day. (I’ve heard of some who write 30 a day – I swoon in admiration and envy.)

They write articles to develop their own sites, and they also write articles for others.

Although I write magazine articles each month, most of my articles over the past year have been for the Web, because there’s such a huge demand. The Web’s gone crazy for articles, and if you can write articles of 300 to 600 words on a variety of topics, you’re in velvet.

This article on Writing Hacker will help you to write articles – “How to Write Articles Fast, Like the Experts”.

So articles can form the foundation of your home based writing business.

2. Create a Web site from which to sell your articles

Of course, you need somewhere to offer your articles to purchasers. This means creating a small site where you can do this. There are several no-cost options for you, my favorite is Google Page Creator. This article from Wikipedia gives you an overview of Google Page Creator.

I know many writers are timid about creating a Web site, but it’s essential. Once you’ve done it, you’ll realize that Web site editors today are so simple that they’re easier than using a word processor. There’s no scary technical stuff involved.

3. Promote your home business – use Craigslist and US Free Ads

With some articles and your article writing services to sell, and a small Web site created, you’re good to go. Now comes the fun part, promoting your home based writing business.

There are many ways you can promote – you can create blogs, use Squidoo and Hub Pages (look these up on Google) and much, much more. Your promotional opportunities are endless.

My favorite methods for new Web writers are Craigslist and US Free Ads.

Craigslist is a completely free way to promote your articles and services. US Free Ads has a free option, but I recommend the Premium membership, because it offers many more features. You can wait until you’ve made some sales before you upgrade the service.

So there you have it: three tips to developing writing as a home based business. All three steps are vital, but they’re simple.

Initially the three steps will be strange to you. Just carry on. There’s no way to do any of this stuff wrong. :-) Before you know it, you’ll have established your own niche, and your home based writing business will bloom.

Make money writing Web sites

If you can use a word processor, you can write Web sites.

Many writers shy away from creating Web sites… they imagine it’s too techy, too complex. It’s not. A small simple site can begin earning money for you very quickly. As a rule of thumb, if you’ve created a site in an area in which there are advertisers you can start earning five to ten dollars a day per site. Now $10 a day isn’t much. But what if you had ten sites all earning $10 day? That’s $100 a day, which is $36,500 a year, just from ten simple sites. What if you had 20 such sites, all earning you $10 a day – or even more – in fact, some sites will earn you $100 a day? “Super-Fast Money-Making Web Sites For Writers: Join The Web-Publishing Bonanza” shows you how.
