Your Freelance Writing Business – What Will You Write?

Every writer is different, and every writer takes a different path to a full time writing career. However, despite their differences, all writers are the same, in that they spend their time writing – generating words out of inspiration and desire.
In this article, we’ll discuss how to get started: what’s in demand that YOU could write?
The Web is a writer’s paradise. Unique content is gold. You may have heard the expression “content is king” – it’s true. So please remember that your content has value.
If you’re just starting out, consider writing: Web sites, ebooks, copywriting, and/ or blogging. All are great platforms on which you can build a successful writing services business.
Here’s a big tip: a writing career involves both writing and marketing your writing services business. Both are necessary.
Writing Web sites – every site has a purpose: build a content empire
Many magazine writers have made the switch from magazines to writing Web sites, often for themselves. A writer friend writes five pages a day. She has many sites, and says: “I look on my sites as magazines. I add articles, advertising, editorial comments… I love writing my own sites because I have complete control, and it’s never dull. I write what I please. The only demand on myself I make is to write my five pages every day. It’s a great gig.”
She making much more than she could make writing for magazines. Her time is her own, and with each page she writes, her Web site empire is growing.
Writing ebooks – from five pages to 50
Online, people are looking for information on managing their challenges. You can help them. You can write ebooks on an endless variety of topics – the topics you choose are up to you.
As with writing Web sites, many former magazine writers have made the switch to writing ebooks. Rather than writing an article on a topic, and selling the article to a magazine, they write an ebook on the topic.
What do you know how to do? You may know how to create a scrapbook, use a digital camera, bake a fabulous cheesecake… Turn your know-how into an ebook.
Copywriting – promotional writing, you need to know the basics
Copywriting is promotional writing, and it’s the most lucrative form of freelance writing. However, even if you don’t want to write copy for others, you should learn the basics of copywriting, so that you can write copy for yourself – to promote your writing services business.
Writing copy starts with writing from the point of view of someone else. It’s persuasive communication.

Copywriting is a great home business
Developing a copywriting services business makes sense if you want to write from home.
How does $250 an hour sound to you? Copywriters are in high demand.
There’s no limitations on who can write copy. Neither age nor education is a bar: your clients don’t care.
So whether you’re a stay-at-home mom or a retiree, or just want to moonlight at your current job, copywriting is the most lucrative (and the most fun, if you love to write) occupation you can try.

Blogging – instant publishing for success
Blogging is instant publishing. Many writers have become bloggers, because businesses recognize the value of blogs. The easiest way to get started is to create your first blog.
A friend said: “When I created my first blog I was a bundle of nerves. However, my topic saved me. I’m a keen gardener, so that’s what my blog is about. I take pictures of how I do something in the garden – pot a plant, create mulch – and then post them on my blog.”
I hope this article has given you a few ideas of what you could write. It’s all up to you. Forge your own path to success, word by word.
Want to develop a six-figure writing income?
The September 2007 issue of The Writer had a great story: “Secrets Of The Six-Figure Freelancers”. The story’s wonderful because it shows you the potential of a freelance writing career; with the development of the Web and its unlimited markets, if you can write, you can make a great income as a freelance writer.
I chuckled when I read the story because many writers think a “six figure income” is hype. Either that, or they think that a great income is reserved for copywriters, or genre novelists, or other specialist writers.
The fact is that YOU can develop a six-figure writing career: you just need to know that it’s possible to earn $250,000 a year and more as a freelance writer, and then make that your goal.
And of course, you need know-how. That’s what my writing ebook manuals give you. In 30 years as a freelance writer, I’ve learned the tricks of the writing trade, and I’d love to share those tricks with you, so many of my ebooks offer free coaching. Whatever your level of experience as a freelance writer, you can develop a fantastic career, when you know how.
