Your writing practice: why practicing leads to writing success

Do you PRACTICE your writing?
A writing “practice” is the bedrock of all your writing activities. Every day, I spend anywhere from half an hour to an hour or longer… practicing.
I do writing exercises, write in my various journals, and just have fun writing.
The very idea of writing cold – that is, without some warmup exercises – makes me shudder, because I hate wasting time.
Yes, my writing practice doesn’t take up time, or waste time, it actually saves me time. My exercises help me to get ideas, they smooth out challenges in longer projects like books, and they help me to write faster, and write more, because I’m warmed up.
If you’d like to begin your own writing practice, and aren’t sure where to start, subscribe to Your EveryDay Write. It’s free. I send you writing prompts and writing tips a couple of times a week.
