Blogging – Your Most Powerful Writing Tool
This week in Fab Freelance Writing Ezine we discussed blogging. I hope you have at least one blog. Whatever kind of writing you’re doing, or aspire to do, a blog will help you to succeed.
I created my first blog on Blogger way back in 2001, before Blogger was purchased by Google. At that time, I had no idea of the power of blogs, which were still stuck in the “online journal” stage.
However, even at that time, blogs were used for business and by some writers, and it soon became clear that blogs could be very powerful tools indeed.
Why blogs work for writers
Blogs offer instant publishing. This means that if you have something to say, you can say it, to a global audience, within minutes. Writers have never before had such an easy way to find readers and an audience.
Whatever kind of writing you’re doing, a blog will help:
* If you’re writing articles, a blog lets you show buyers what you can do; and let’s them buy directly from you;
* If you’re writing a novel, you can write it on your blog, and get a publisher in the process;
* If you’re writing copy, a blog helps you to get clients;
* If you want to turn your writing into a business, a blog lets you publish your own online magazine;
* If you want to sell ebooks, there’s no better or easier way than a blog.

Get Blog Jobs – Fun and Profitable if You Love Blogging

Do you blog? I hope you do, because blogging can do a lot for your freelance writing career. For a writer, blogs are not only an instant-publishing tool, they’re also an opportunity to find great writing jobs.
Blogs are a phenomenon. Although many “A-list” bloggers have been publishing for years and have built up strong audiences, it’s only in the past couple of years that blogs have become mainstream.
Let’s get definitions out of the way. What’s a blog? A blog is just a Web site in which the site’s pages are (usually) published in chronological order. Blogs are based on templates, and have a simple navigational structure, based on chronology, and on categories.
The major benefit of a blog is that it’s instant. If I want to post a message to a blog, I can do it in seconds. Contrast the “instant” nature of a blog with publishing in a newspaper or a magazine. The other major benefit of a blog is that it can be free.
The fantastic benefits of your writer’s blog

Blogging has amazing benefits for writers.
If you’re not blogging, you’re wasting a brilliant opportunity.
Blogging is completely experiential – the benefits are different for each writer, but I’ve yet to meet a writer who’s been blogging for a year who isn’t shocked by the benefits they’ve received, and continue to receive.
Some of the benefits for new writers:
Make money blogging – even when your blog’s idle
A blog’s a Web site, and once it’s online, how often you post to it is up to you. I have many blogs with fewer than 20 posts which still make a nice income.
In “How often should you post to a blog” I pointed out that:
… it’s not necessary to turn every blog into a venue. That may not be your goal for a particular blog. Bottom line, a blog is a Web site, and there are many different kinds of Web sites: your goals and mission for a particular blog are what’s important. You decide what you want a blog to do.
