Writing for Fun and Money: Make Your Creativity Pay

Want to make money writing? Here’s a simple truth: your income is related to your creativity and you can only be creative when you’re having fun. Let’s look at how you can make your creativity pay.
1. What Kind of Writing Would You Like to Do?
Start by deciding what kind of writing would be fun for you.
Do you want to write articles? Many new writers start off with articles because they’re easy to write, they’re relatively short, and on the web the standard is pretty low.
Make a list of the kinds of writing that you would like to do. If you’re not sure, check out the some of the many writing blogs online. These blogs will give you an idea of the options open to you.
It’s important to realize however that you can write (almost) anything you please online, and as long as there are advertisers in that particular area you will make money.
2. Writing That Sells: Articles, Books, Copywriting
Certain types of writing sell well online: articles, ebooks, and copywriting.
Tip: copywriting is writing to sell; it’s marketing communication. If you have previous marketing experience you can make lots of money writing copy for the web, however if you don’t have this kind of experience, stick to “content”, that is, informative writing.
3. Instant Money? Earn While You Learn
Because the web is so new, and the demand for content is so great, even new writers can make a great income. This means that you’re earning while you’re learning.
However do realize that you need to continue to learn — the more you know, the more money you can make. Constant learning will enhance your creativity.
Here’s why I want you to focus on creativity. Many writers never learn that creativity pays. These are the writers who want to copy what everyone else does, rather than being original, but copying severely limits your income.
I can’t tell you how to be creative — you’ll be creative in your own way because you’re an original. There will only ever be one you, with your experience and your talent. Trust your own instincts. Be creative and write and your potential for success is unlimited.

Writing: 5 Tips to Nurture Your Creativity

Your creativity is the bedrock of your writing career. However every writer knows that at times you’re much more creative than you usually are. Let’s look at five tips which will help you to nurture your creativity so that you’re more creative more often.
1. Take Walks for Exercise: Go Alone
Your creativity lives in your right brain, and your right brain “thinks” in images. Your right brain is completely nonverbal, therefore feeding your right brain images tends to prime the pump, so that you become more aware of images as they float into your consciousness. This images are translated by your verbal left brain into words.
Movement seems to enhance this image-creation process.
Go for a daily walk. It doesn’t matter where you go, you can walk somewhere in nature or you can stroll through your local shopping mall. Here’s what’s essential: go alone. As you walk and look around you, you’re feeding your brain with images. When you return and go back to your writing you’ll write much more easily.
2. Take Long Baths or Showers
I’ve no idea of why water enhances your creativity, but it does. It can be very annoying. You climb under the shower and before you know it you get a great idea for your writing. Keep a notepad in the bathroom so that you can capture these ideas.
3. Play With Your Writing: Make It Fun for Yourself
You’d laugh if you could see my office. It looks like a child’s playroom. I have coloring pencils, paints, and large drawing pads. I know that doodling stimulates creativity, so several times during the day I take a large pad and doodle. I just relax, have fun and enjoy the colors.
When I go back to writing, I get an instant rush of ideas.
4. Relax, and Take Deep Breaths Every Hour or So
Writing is stressful. Without meaning to, you’ll find yourself tensing up. This leads to RSI and worse. It kills your creativity. At least once an hour, or preferably two or three times an hour, stand up and take several long, slow deep breaths. Stretch. You be amazed at the difference it makes.
5. Use Your Imagination: “See” Tasks Completed
Try this. Before you start a writing task, close your eyes for a moment. In your imagination, see yourself writing easily and effortlessly. See yourself enjoying your writing. Then you see yourself completing your writing task and being thrilled with what you’ve written.
This is autosuggestion. In a sense, you’re hypnotizing yourself. This is very powerful, and it works.

Kill Writing Procrastination for Good with Three Words

Do you put off writing? If procrastination is a challenge for you, you’ll discover how to kill that tendency for good with three short words. Discover what they are.
Let’s start by assessing what writing procrastination is. Basically it’s when you either put off writing something you know how to write, or are scared of writing in general because you imagine that there’s a right way to write something or other.
To become a competent, prolific writer, you need to forget your education. All writing is subjective, and once you leave school, no one is giving you marks out of a hundred. That gives you lots of freedom: make the most of it with three words.
Blogging for Great Ideas
Our topic this week is: getting ideas for your writing. I show you three easy ways in our feature article “Writing Beyond Brainstorming – Easy Ways to Get Great Ideas”.
But did you know that one of the best ways to get ideas is via your blog?
Your Blog As An Idea Generator
I love blogs and blogging, and aside from the benefits blogs have as an in*come stream for writers, blogs make you more creative and productive. Everyone I’ve pushed and shoved and nagged into blogging has always commented on this: a blog helps you to write more, and gives you ideas.
Why is this? I suspect that the primary reason is that a blog is demanding. Your blog needs frequent updating, so you write a blog post. That post gives you ideas for other blog posts, as well as ideas for articles and ebooks.
The lesson here is: IDEAS FOR WRITING COME WHEN YOU’RE WRITING.
Blogs are interactive too. People contact you to comment on blog posts, and ask questions via email, and this gives you ideas you can use.
The archives and categories show you what you’ve already written on a topic, sparking ideas for additional writing. For example, I’ve just looked at the Get Started Freelance Writing category at Fab Freelance Writing Blog.
I found a post called “Quick Tip: Get started selling your writing”. I’m always looking for a new article topics, and that one post has just sparked several ideas for fresh articles… and for an ebook on getting started. I know there’s a big demand for more information on this topic.
Over time, when you look back on blog entries you’ve written one, two or even more years ago, you can see that you have fresh insight on the topics because you’ve gained more experience, so reading older entries automatically gives you ideas.
Blogs are an essential tool for writers – you can’t write in the new millennium without one, so I urge you to blog, if only for the creativity benefits.
