Writing: Get Motivated to Write

Have you lost your motivation for your writing? Unfortunately this can happen at any time in your writing career. The reasons this happens vary; here’s how to get back on track.
1. Tap Your Creativity: What’s Fun for You to Write?
Often the reason you’ve lost your motivation is that your writing has ceased to be fun for you. It’s amazing that when you send an article query, you’re very eager to write the article, but a week later, when the editor calls you and gives you the go-ahead, you suddenly become completely unmotivated. You’re blocked.
This happens when you develop resistance. (We’ll discuss resistance in a moment.)
If you’re suddenly blocked on a writing task, it’s time to tap your creativity. Ask yourself what would be fun to write. Make a list. Start the list in this way “it would be fun for me to write ___________”
Make the list as long as you can.
2. Resistance Has Meaning: What’s Holding You Back?
Resistance to writing, that is procrastinating on a writing task, always has meaning. The meaning is rarely obvious. You can find out why you’re resisting a writing task very easily.
Set a timer for 10 minutes, grab a writing pad and pen, and start writing with this phrase: “I don’t feel like writing because___________”
Write without removing your pen from the paper, just write anything that comes to mind. After about four minutes you’ll get to the reason you’re procrastinating. Don’t be surprised at what comes out. When you remove the reason for your procrastination (just writing about it may remove it) you’ll be able to get back to writing, and you’ll write easily.
3. Shush! Talking About Your Writing Often Kills Motivation
Many professional writers make it a rule never to discuss their works in progress. This is a good rule. You can waste the energy you should be used in writing by talking about it.
4. Study and Learn: the More You Know, the More You Can Write
You can become unmotivated when you don’t know enough about a topic, or when you’re bored with what you’ll currently writing about.
Learn something new. You can learn to sky dive or bake a cake: what you learn doesn’t matter. However, you should discover that the mere fact that you’ve learned something new will inspire you to write.
Angela Booth’s writing guides have been created to help you to make money from your writing every day. Join the thousands of writers who are making great money with their writing skills.

Hypnosis for Writers – Get Inspired and Write

Everyone gets hypnotized, every day. You’re in a mild form of trance whenever you concentrate on something to the exclusion of everything else. When you’re reading, for example, or driving, or watching a movie.
So hypnosis is a natural ability we all possess. You can make use of that natural ability in your writing.
Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert, gives the best explanation of the “powers” that hypnosis gives you that I’ve ever read. He maintains that everyone can be hypnotized and gain these three powers:
1. Extra relaxation
2. Extra imagination
3. Extra focus
From my own experience, I know that this is completely accurate. These powers are easy to develop and they’re immensely valuable to all writers, whether they’re new, or established. Imagine if you could tap directly into your subconscious mind, and use your imaginative powers and focus at will. Imagine if you could complete projects faster, and have more confidence in your writing…
I discovered self-hypnosis in high school. Since I preferred reading to doing homework, I was a lousy student. Nevertheless, I did extremely well in my studies, because I used self-hypnosis to improve my memory and to help me to pass exams.
Unfortunately many years passed before I rediscovered hypnosis, and applied its benefits to my writing.
While you’re writing, if the writing is going well, you form a direct connection between with your subconscious mind. If you understand this, you can learn to make the connection deliberately using hypnosis, so that you can write on demand, write well, and have a lot of fun too.
Learn self-hypnosis
To use self-hypnosis in your writing, you need to learn this skill. Most people recommend that you see a hypnotist first, so that you can discover what hypnosis feels like. This is a good idea, but I taught myself self-hypnosis using a book. I didn’t see a hypnotist and experience having someone else do the induction and give me suggestions until many years later.
So it’s possible to teach yourself self-hypnosis. You’ll find many books and CDs which will help you to learn.
Give yourself suggestions while in self-hypnosis
We’re all suggestible, but usually suggestions are placed, knowingly or unknowingly, by others, and reinforced. Self-hypnosis allows you to plant suggestions yourself which serve you better. The suggestions you give yourself are similar to affirmations, but they’re much more powerful.
Once you’ve learned self-hypnosis, you can put yourself into a creative mind state very easily. This helps when you’re writing, because you’ll be able to focus only on your writing, no matter what the distractions are. You’ll also be able to give yourself post-hypnotic suggestions that you’ll write when it’s time to write, that you’ll find all the resources you need, and much more.
Develop your own hypnosis scripts
Although you’ll find complete hypnosis programs which will help you to do almost anything including improving your health, managing stress and managing your relationships, it’s best to create your own self-hypnosis scripts.
This is what I did when I first learned. I wrote my own scripts, and recorded the scripts, including the induction, the suggestions, and the return. Writing your own scripts means that you can tailor your self-hypnosis sessions to suit your own needs.
Develop trigger words
Hypnosis is often combined with Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). You develop trigger words and actions, so you can induce any mind-body state you wish whenever you wish. For example, you might want to induce a creative state, or a state in which you have super-confidence when you’re giving a presentation.
So as part of your self-hypnosis sessions, you can develop these trigger words and actions.
Have fun learning self-hypnosis – it’s a fantastic skill which will help you to improve your life in many ways, as well as improve your writing skills.

Change your life with your journal

Want to change something about yourself and/ or your writing? Here’s how: journal.
The Benefits of Keeping a Private Journal reports:
“The key point to note is not the therapeutic effects of writing in a journal but rather the fact that regular journal keeping will influence the way you think or feel about an specific topic. If you’re an entrepreneur, blogger or marketer, reflection via a private journal will give you a fountain of ideas and initiatives to pursue.”
This is so true.
I don’t journal as often as I should do, I spend all day writing, and the last thing I want to do is write more in the evening.
However, when I face a challenge I don’t know how to handle, I journal. Journaling has always helped me to get my head straight.
In 2000 I did a lot of journaling because I didn’t like the way my writing was going. Specifically, I could see that unless I changed my reluctance to market my writing, I would be stuck at a level of income I knew I could surpass… if only I’d market myself and my writing consistently.
Journaling helped me change my mind about marketing my writing. I went from someone who became physically ill at the thought of sending out query letters and making cold calls to market my copywriting, to someone who LOVES marketing.
Now, I can’t remember the person I used to be – and I can’t believe I was ever nervous about any form of marketing.
So if there’s something about yourself your don’t care for, journaling will help. It’s therapeutic, and way cheaper than therapy itself.
Here are a couple of books which helped me to develop a journaling habit:
* Write It Down Make It Happen (Klauser)
* The New Diary (Rainer)
